Tight vs. Fitted

It has been said that there’s a time and place for everything, so before I dive into this topic we have to take a few things into consideration.

Everyone has different levels of taste when it comes to personal style.  Some people feel perfectly fine disregarding their body type when selecting clothing.  What is “appropriate” to me may be “inappropriate” to you.  Style involves many factors such as culture, values, self-esteem, and self-expression.  Overall, tailored clothing that is fitted close to the body can make you appear much slimmer, but clothing that is too little will always be unflattering.

I believe there are some environments where it is appropriate to wear more fitted clothing (such as certain evening affairs), but there are other places where extremely form-fitting clothing is inappropriate (such as work, church, and school).  The most important thing is to wear clothing that flatters your shape and that does not showcase all of your flaws. You should always put your best foot forward when it comes to how clothing fits your body.

When leaving the house, ask yourself, “Is this outfit appropriate for where I’m going?”  I am sure that there are many people who have squandered career and romance opportunities by simply wearing the “right” outfit to the “wrong” place.

Here are a few characteristics of clothing that may be too tight:

  • It gaps in the chest area.
  • You cannot button the item properly.
  • The seams are pulling or being strained.
  • There is extreme riding or creasing of the fabric around the hip area.
  • Undergarments are exposed.
  • Clings to rolls of fat or highlights cellulite.

The most important part of developing your personal style is wearing clothing that fits your body amazing! Let me know how you decide if an item is too tight to  purchase or wear!
