If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that I moved into my new place! It is exactly the space that my hubby and I have been wanting for awhile: hardwood floors, an open layout, and a great restaurant within walking distance. It has been an adjustment because we used to live in a house, so figuring out how to decorate a loft is definitely challenging. I’m taking you along on the ride with updates on the blog with how I am styling my place, so I hope you enjoy this new series!
Let’s start with the living room!
We already had a couch and a sitting chair, so all we needed were a few accent pieces to bring the space together. I am not ready for bright colors, so I am going with a neutral and warm palette for the living room, and in the future I may add a few pops of color. The one challenge that I have had is decorating around the modern dark brown couch that we already had from our previous home. I wanted to ensure the space was not too dark, so my color scheme is beige, brown and tan. I have already purchased a floor lamp, ottoman, area rug, and some decorative pillows.
The most difficult part of decorating this area of the loft has been going in circles about which area rug to purchase. It took a long time and endless internet searches until I found the right one. It is an open space, so I wanted a rug that would create a separate area in the loft. I also struggled with the color choices. First, I wanted an ivory rug but then I remembered how clumsy I am and decided to go with a tan shaggy rug from Target. I also struggled with deciding what type of floor lamp and coffee table to go with. I knew I wanted modern accent pieces because that is the aesthetic that my husband and I enjoy the most, but I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to spend on everything. Ultimately, I ended up purchasing most of my items from Wayfair because that site is freaking amazing. I am ashamed to say that I am on there almost every day. Their prices are great and I love to read reviews before I purchase anything.

I decided to get an ottoman instead of a coffee table so that I could put my feet up and have extra storage options (which is essential when living in a smaller space). I went with a three-leg modern lamp from Mayfair because it was extremely affordable compared to other sites and it gave me the modern feel that I was going for.
The only thing we have left is to complete the wall art purchases and to get hubby to hang everything. The next post in this series will be all about my wall art options, so stay tuned…xo
