Questions about shapewear often flood my Instagram and Facebook page, and there are so many options to choose from. I love shapewear, and whoever created it is a genius, but it is not a miracle worker. Shapewear can only help so much, and it definitely cannot take the place of weight loss. I do not wear heavy-duty shapewear most of the time, but I do like to look smooth and polished in my clothing. I only wear shapewear when I wear bodycon styles because that is the only time that I feel I truly need it, but sometimes I like to wear a light shaper to prevent my thighs from rubbing together, which is a common issue for plus size women. I also really enjoy how a good shaper can camouflage your lumps and bumps. A lot of people think that only plus size women wear shapewear, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. There are many thin women and hollywood stars that also enjoy the benefits of a good shaper. The purpose of a shaper is to eliminate your problem areas as much as possible, so that your outfit can shine! The key to picking shapewear is to select the right type for the outfit that you are wearing. On this page I am sharing my favorite shapewear with you!
1) Light Support – when I am wearing a garment that does not require a lot of support, I like to wear the Assets Super Control High-Waist Mid-Thigh Shaper. The Assets line falls under the SPANX brand. I actually wear it a lot because it is comfortable and not too tight. It offers great support and is very comparable to control pantyhose. This high-waist shaper offers strong, yet flexible support and does not ride up at all. You need this in your life:-) There are a variety of shapers to choose from within the SPANX brand, so find one that works for you.
2) Medium/Heavy Support – When I am wearing a thin material that will expose every little lump and bump, I like to wear a stronger shaper. I was having a very hard time finding one that was seamless. Surprisingly, a lot of shapewear is made with seams that are visible through thinner materials (not cool)! I found a shaper at Catherines that offered great support, gave me a smooth look, and most of all that I could still breathe in. It is hands down my favorite thigh shaper.
3) The last type of shapewear that I want to discuss is the half slip shaper (this is my new love). This is a must-have if you wear skirts that have a shorter length. It pulls you in and smooths out your upper thighs. The only downside is you might experience the thigh-rub issue, but I still like to wear this one occasionally.
Try not to purchase your shapewear too tight because sometimes you can accentuate your problem areas even more if your shapewear is ill-fitting. It is important to invest money in your undergarments and shapewear because without the appropriate foundation you can really ruin the look of your outfit. There is shapewear out there that will work for every body type, so take some time and figure out what will work for you.
