Can you believe that I actually started working on my Capsule Wardrobe? I know-I know, I said I was going to do this last year, but I did not realize the amount of thought, time, and strategy that it would take to create a capsule wardrobe. Now don’t get too excited, I am just in the beginning stages of planning but it is a start. I thought I would share my process with you in this new blog series. People make it look so easy to create but for me not so much.
So What Is A Capsule Wardrobe?
It is a collection of clothes and accessories that include only items considered essential. What is considered essential will vary from individual to individual. A lot of popular bloggers tend to lean more towards a certain number of items to have, but that is not my style. I am going to create my number of essentials that I need in my wardrobe.
Why Do I Want To Create A Capsule Wardrobe?
I often do quite a bit of shopping. I think social media and magazines often brainwash us to think that we need to have a lot of clothes, and I don’t believe that to be true anymore. I want quality items in my wardrobe that I actually love and wear. Mostly, I wanted to become more aware of what I was purchasing and how much money I was wasting. There are some things in my closet that I bought that have never been worn (that is ridiculous). I don’t want to live a life that is full of excess and waste. I want to be more conscious about what I’m buying, where I’m buying products from, and why I’m buying it. My husband and I are moving towards a more minimal lifestyle and starting with my wardrobe is my first step.
What Steps Am I Taking To Create My Capsule Wardrobe?
- Step 1: Declutter my closet and remove all clothing that I no longer wear.
- Step 2: Donate clothing to the thrift store and host a closet sale.
- Step 3: Make a list of the items that I need in my wardrobe.
- Step 4: Track the various ways that I can pair the items in my wardrobe.
- Step 5: Evaluate my failures and successes with creating a capsule wardrobe.
What Will My Color Pallette Be?
My color palette will be mostly neutral.
- blue denim
- olive green (maybe)
These are all colors that I can mix-n-match within my wardrobe, but they are also my favorite colors at the moment. I live for neutrals!
This summer I am all about minimal style. I only want clothing items in my wardrobe that are simple, chic, and easy to wear! If I have a special occasion or event, I will make an exception but my everyday attire will be relaxed and comfortable.
Do you have to stop shopping?
Yes, the goal is to only purchase items for your seasonal wardrobe and to not shop until the next season. I have a different lifestyle than a lot of other people because I am a fashion blogger, so I will not be limiting myself to a certain number of articles of clothing. The goal is to only have items in my personal wardrobe that I actually wear and love. This will reduce the amount of spending that I do on shopping and will make getting dressed much easier. So for me, I only purchase items that I can wear with multiple items in my wardrobe and the goal is not to shop for my personal wardrobe until the fall (but I have a trip coming up so I may have to break this rule a little to prepare…lol).
I am breaking down my capsule wardrobe into categories.
Here they are:
- Denim Items (excluding jeans) – Watch my video for this category HERE
- Jeans – Watch my video for this category HERE
- Loungewear/Workout gear
- Everyday Basics (pants/t-shirts/skirts)
I hope you will enjoy this new series on my blog and I will be back with part 2 soon!
